Arkansas has hired a new Athletic Director. After 50 years at the University of Arkansas, J. Frank Broyles is calling it quits. UA officials announced in a press conference on Tuesday that Jeff Long has been hired as the next A.D. at Arkansas.
What does this spell for Houston?
Long has no ties with Houston or the Razorback program. Some thought Houston was being conditioned to take over the A.D. position from Broyles but since Long is young, does that mean he will be here for the next 20-25 years? I have some thoughts...
Houston leads the Hogs to a 10 win season.
D-Mac wins the Heisman Trophy and bolts for the NFL.
Felix enters the draft and is picked in the 2nd round.
Houston begins to receive phone calls from other schools like Texas A&M when coach Dennis Franchione gets the axe or LSU when Lloyd Carr is fired at Michigan and Les Miles leaves Baton Rouge takes over the Wolverines.
Houston knows he is no longer in line or maybe in a longer line to get the A.D. job in Fayetteville.
With Houston losing so much talent after this season, and with a new boss, can he weather another couple of 6 or 7 win season on the Hill without Long pulling the rug out from under him?
Don't misunderstand me, I am a Hugger and I want HDN to stick around as long as he wants to, but now I think the writing may be on the wall for his future as the Head Hog.
Wherever and whenever he goes I will continue to follow him but I will always be a Hog at heart.
Time will tell....
Go Hogs Go!
